will be playing the pick-6 today, but here's a look inside the individual races:

r2: i mention this race only because gulf of mexico is rumored to be an absolute monster. now, you're probably staring at 1/2 or 3/5 b/c everyone and their mother will be on this guy, but he's been training like a demon in the a.m. perhaps we can make some money with a cold exacta to tough negotiator, who sold for a remarkable 310k, by non-descript sire good and tough.

r4: oneexcessivenite. again, not much of a price, but think this one should win for fun- speed has been king on the turf of late and this one should be up close and personal from gate to wire.

r5: lucky pulpit. this one has speed and is bred to be a star for cliff sise, who looks to get off the floor with a win here. the competition doesn't look like much, either.

r7: lord jim. little bit of a longshot here, but with the defection of decarchy, this one is wide open. denied looms the one to beat, but there some pace in here and 'jim has been known to uncork a huge one every now and again. hoping julie puts this one into the race early.

well, gulf of mexico ran true to his reputation and works. romped at 1/2. tough negotiator with a very nice rally for second- cold exacta returned $7.80 for 2 bucks- guess that's how you turn a 1/2 shot into a 5/2 shot...

Great call Mazel!

I had the Exactor & Tri thanks to your info. I took Gulf/Negotiator then wheeled the field for the 3rd place to cpmplete the tri

If I don't lose too much on this damn socal racing I'll be here playing the mountain most of the evening.
You know, I spent practically every day of each meet at Del Mar back in 88-90 when I was living in SD - I was in the nightclub biz and had my days free to spend at the track. It's where I learned a lot about handicapping, probably the first time I ever took it seriously. But after moving to the east I've found that California racing is so hard for me to cap - it takes a totally different approach and I'm so tuned in to Florida now. I gotta say, though, I sure miss those August afternoons in Del Mar. Still my favorite track in the States.
Anyway, on to race 4...

I know you've been preaching speed, Mazel, but if the 4 or 6 tries to push ONEEXCESSIVENIGHT, then how about a sneak up the rail by P-Val on DEJA? At 11-1 right now, I think I'll try her.

good call c,

i've probably seen 300-400 horses break through the gate in my time at the track, and i can count on both hands how many of them managed to win anyway. oneexcessivenite busted the gate before the race and obviously something went amiss with her- ironically, i used her and deja in my pick-6 so i will be watching from the sidelines as the potential payout balloons skyward.

$11.40 to place! I just got a warm, fuzzy feeling. Besides the gate debacle, I think she just simply went too fast early. There was no reason for it - wouldn't be surprised if she bounced back big next time.

Race 5
I like the outside speed, ALPENWALD, the best here. Willing to look past the Gr III failure and hope for an effort resembling the maiden win. I know she's got a tough task facing the boys but I love Swiss Yodeler sprinters and I favor this one slightly over DAVE THE DUDE mostly because I don't like to back Espinoza unless I've been drinking.

i don't like backing espinoza even after a weeklong cerveza binge. alpenwald draws well outside the other speed and if she can rate, she has a chance. i like the other filly, miss sand bar even better as machowsky has his stock primed for this meet and she looks like a filly on her way up up up.

great call, maze - hope you got the exacta.

Race 6
What's up with that 46.3 STAR MAKER ripped off for Hollendorfer? Gotta throw her in the exotics I think. But the winner should be RUN REBECCA RUN - another Swiss Yodeler sprinter who's been working very well. 4/5/all and 4/all/5 could pay for mucho cerveza.

THAT's IT!
I am done with these people.

DelMAr , Race 2 - ADVANTAGE claims that my bet went in 8 MINUTES past post!!!!
I read your post, bet my horses and sat back a couple of minutes to watch the race!!!!!!
WTF gives with these guys????
HOW can I PROVE that I bet before post?
I do not care what numbers they give ME - I KNOW that I bet before the race DAMMIT!!!!

thanks

well,

run rebecca run has a chance, but i like last kiss much better. she has the most talent in the race, but is coming off an extended layoff for spawr, whose horses have been well-meant this meet. looking closely at this race, there doesn't appear to be much speed, which makes me like last kiss even more of mike smith (a notoriously poor gate rider) can break out on top. i always respect pval in these paceless races (he's got the best hands in the business).
